Three-time NBA Most Valuable Player Nikola Jokic suffered a "devastating" injury to his knee as the Nuggets were defeated by a score of 147-123 at the Miami Heat.

The Serbian center sustained the injury in the latter stages of the opening half in an inadvertent collision with fellow Nugget Spencer Jones.

Jones stepped on the footwear of the big man, who promptly went down to the ground grabbing his knee.

The star, who tops the league this season in rebounds and assists, posted a score of 21 points and eight assists in the matchup prior to suffering the injury.

He is scheduled for an MRI on the following day to determine the seriousness of the issue.

"Right away, he knew something was wrong," commented Nuggets coach Adelman.

"Injuries are part of the game. Anyone who suffers an injury, that's tough to see, most notably somebody as special as he is. We will know more tomorrow."

"We'll move on together. Of course, right now, I'm more worried primarily about him personally and the frustration of experiencing something like that."
