The Red Devils Poised to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has six months left on her deal, has been a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee coup for the WSL team.

Departure from Bayern has been anticipated since she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the club's supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading forwards. Per reports, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.

Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen the Forward Line

The experienced striker's signing should represent a significant boost to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Steam at Old Trafford

Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club seem to be building positive momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen additional activity:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's extension, a club official stated: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
