It has been 30 years since the first Toy Story film was released, establishing the animation giant as a leading animation studio and bringing audiences to beloved characters like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a brief look into the plot but keeping fans curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys

The preview reveals the young girl — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a brand new plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.

Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a carnival and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.

Surely, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting unexpectedly is a little strange, though. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before departing for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. The clip displays the insignia attached to her outfit.

Hopefully she is still the driving force among the group.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
