Alpine star Lindsey Vonn asserts she will be "in a good place" for the upcoming Winter Olympics, after earning a place on the rostrum for the fourth time in her last five World Cup events. The veteran athlete, who last week set a record by becoming the oldest downhill World Cup winner, took the bronze position in the super giant slalom in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This was her 142nd career World Cup podium finish. Strong Return in the French Alps Racing in the French Alps resort for the first time in almost a decade, Vonn crossed the line in a time of 1:20.60. She was just over a third of a second behind winner Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson taking second place. "I was slightly lacking enough direction on the first jump," Vonn remarked. "Subsequently, I skied well. I'm pleased with my run today, unlike in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was too conservative." This performance was her second podium at Val d'Isere over the weekend, having also claimed bronze in the downhill on Saturday. An Incredible Return from Injury Vonn ended her career in early 2019 due to persistent injuries. However, she returned to racing in late 2024 following a significant orthopedic procedure. With 47 days remaining until the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, which are scheduled for February 6th to the 22nd, Vonn's form are timely. She boasts one gold and two Olympic bronze medals from previous Games and is strongly positioned to compete for the United States at the next Olympics. "When we get to Cortina, I will be fully ready," the athlete confirmed. Aiming for Further Glory In addition to her Olympic ambitions, Vonn is also aiming to increase the four World Cup titles she has won over a career spanning 20 years. She presently enjoys a substantial lead at the summit of the overall downhill standings and is sitting in fifth place in the super-G World Cup table. This season's World Cup campaign features a nine more events scheduled before the circuit finale in Norway on March 21st, 2026.
