Pep Guardiola has admitted experiencing "embarrassment" after a confrontation with a TV crew member subsequent to the Citizens' 2-1 defeat at Newcastle this past weekend.

At full time, an emotional Guardiola entered the St James’ Park pitch and had heated discussions with the referee, Sam Barrott and Newcastle’s Bruno Guimarães, while also handling the broadcast crew's equipment.

"I apologised," Guardiola stated. "I'm humiliated, regretful, when I see it. It's not acceptable. I apologised after one second to the operator. I am who I am. After 1,000 games I'm far from perfect, I make huge mistakes."

"What is for sure, I stand by my team and club, without a doubt. The reason why I want to defend my team is no doubt – based on my career to win the Premier League we have to do 100 points, high nineties, otherwise we don’t win it."

City are third and are seven behind the Gunners following their fourth loss of the season. "Losing four games out of 12 we have to improve a lot," Guardiola admitted. "Technically, we can to win everything."

The manager was asked if this meant the quadruple was a realistic aim, Guardiola answered: "As a seasoned reporter, have you ever heard me discuss four trophies in December when we won the quadruple? No."

Regarding his confrontation with the Newcastle player, Guardiola said: "We have known Bruno a long time and every time after the game, even at the Etihad, we talk in the tunnel. Our paths always cross and we get along well. I enjoy it. I'm passionate, I love to talk and move my hands."

He wouldn't mind if an opposition manager spoke to his players immediately after a game. "Not if you talk with respect like I always have done, it’s not a problem," he said, before referencing Barrott. "He was part of it for 95 minutes, 98 minutes, constantly. My God, very much so."

Debatable Calls

The team felt aggrieved that Barrott or the VAR did not award City a penalty for a Fabian Schär challenge against Foden, and doubted if Guimarães was offside on Barnes' goal the decisive strike. Subsequent images indicate the Brazilian was onside.

He will manage his century in Europe against Bayer Leverkusen this week. "It’s quite good, it means that every season we have been there," he said.

City have 10 points after four games of the league phase, and Leverkusen hold five.
