Oscar-Nominated Star Diane Ladd, Known For Her Performance in Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore, Dies at 89 Years Old.

This Oscar-nominated actor the celebrated Diane Ladd has died at the age of 89.

The actress, whose roles spanned Chinatown, left this world in her residence in Ojai, California. This announcement was announced through a message shared by her daughter, Academy Award-winning star Laura Dern, her daughter.

Laura Dern, who performed alongside Diane Ladd in a number of films including Wild at Heart and Rambling Rose, referred to her as “my wonderful hero and my precious gift of a mother”, noting that she was at her bedside during her final moments.

“She was an exceptional daughter, mother, grandmother, star, artist and empathetic spirit that only dreams could have seemingly created,” she expressed. “We were lucky to have her. Her spirit soars with angels.”

Early Career and Breakthrough

Ladd’s early career saw minor parts in TV shows including Gunsmoke and that decade featured her performing with actor Jack Nicholson in Chinatown.

During that year, the year 1974, she appeared alongside Ellen Burstyn in Scorsese’s acclaimed dramatic comedy the movie Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore. Her acting earned Ladd an Academy Award nomination in the supporting actress category.

Subsequent Years

During the eighties, she appeared in crime thriller the movie Black Widow plus comedy sequel Christmas Vacation and appeared on the show Alice, a television series inspired by the film Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore.

During the next ten years, she received a further best supporting actress nomination for her role in Lynch’s the movie Wild at Heart in which she portrayed the parent of her actual daughter Laura Dern’s role. The following year she was awarded a further nomination for her acting in the film Rambling Rose that also featured Laura Dern.

“This was the film that Princess Diana chose as her absolutely favorite, and she invited us to the UK for a royal premiere and an event in our honor,” Ladd shared of Rambling Rose. “She positioned herself between us, grasping our hands, with tears, watching us perform.”

The 1990s featured performances in humorous films Cemetery Club bringing her back with Burstyn, Primary Colors, a political comedy, featuring John Travolta and the film by Alexander Payne Citizen Ruth, a dark comedy in which she portrayed the mother of Dern another time. That period also earned her nominations for Emmy Awards for performances in Dr Quinn, Medicine Woman, Grace Under Fire, a sitcom plus Touched by an Angel.

Partnerships with Her Daughter

She kept appearing alongside her daughter in comedy drama Daddy and Them, the David Lynch project Inland Empire, a surreal film and Mike White’s comedy-drama series the program Enlightened.
