The Brazilian attacker scored twice as Nottingham Forest rounded off the group stage of the Europa League with a comfortable triumph against Ferencvaros at the home stadium.

Forest had previously guaranteed a place in the next qualifying round and went into this fixture with a small chance of reaching the top eight, although they required several results to go their way.

That did not happen but this assured display will give the supporters confidence that their team can come through the two-legged play-off to advance to the round of sixteen.

Kristoffer Zachariassen did hit the post with a header inside the opening stages for the away team – coached by ex-Premier League forward Robbie Keane – but it was all Forest from that point forward.

They opened the scoring in the early stages when a delivery from midfield was deflected in by Bence Otvos and added a second four minutes later – Jesus firing an effort in at the far post for his 10th goal of the season.

The forward's eleventh goal arrived early in the second half when he timed a run perfectly to break clear of the backline and then place a shot past the goalkeeper.

That goal ended the visitors' hopes of mounting a recovery and instead the hosts scored again when the excellent McAtee scored from a spot-kick after a foul by the unfortunate Otvos inside the box on Dan Ndoye.

The Europa League qualifying round lottery takes place on the final Friday of January (midday UK time), where Forest could be drawn against either the Turkish side or Panathinaikos.

"It's more than the result, there was that feel about it. I want these players to do well as a unit, the entire team," said manager Sean Dyche.

"This is another step, but it is a good one."

Team Breakdown: Jesus Catches Eye as Recent Arrival Watches On

Jesus has been a revelation for Forest in European competition this term with half of his 11 goals coming in the Europa League.

His brace also means he has got three goals in his previous two outings and the threat of a challenge for his place in the forward line could be providing motivation.

Napoli striker Lorenzo Lucca was last week brought in temporarily and he was observing this game from the directors' box.

This development may well have been on Jesus' mind as he was outstanding against the opposition, delivering two superb goals and generally being a constant threat to the visitors' defence with his speed and runs.

Jesus was not the only one in catching the eye, with McAtee turning in his best performance in a Forest jersey since joining from Manchester City last summer, while Dan Ndoye also impressed.

These encouraging performances will give Forest some renewed optimism as they turn their attention to increasing the gap from the Premier League relegation zone when they host Crystal Palace on Sunday.

"All you can ask for is a reaction," added Dyche.

"I've never questioned their commitment or their dedication or honesty. It is just go and show your ability.

"James was excellent and Dan Ndoye was super sharp. Igor got another couple and these are positive indicators."
