England to Launch UEFA Euro 2028 Quest at Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium

The English squad will embark on their Euro 2028 journey at the Manchester City’s stadium, provided that they secure the expected passage for a tournament staged throughout the majority of the UK and the Irish Republic.

The Etihad Stadium has not staged an England men’s game since the spring of 2016, when the Turkish team were defeated 2-1 in a exhibition match, but is expected to welcome the national team for their inaugural game on Saturday 10 June 2028.

The team are set to play their final two group matches at Wembley Stadium, but, should they win Group B, their knockout stage opener would take place at Newcastle’s St James’ Park. Placing second would mean commencing the knockouts at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Championship Launch and Demonstration

The event was unveiled at an ceremony in central London on the previous evening. Key representatives from European football’s governing body and the organizing bodies were barracked as they arrived the site by around fifty protesters, who called for the Israeli team to be expelled from global football because of the Gaza crisis.

Signs were displayed with phrases reading “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while protesters shouted: “Kick Israel out.”

Championship Timeline

The opening game of Euro 2028 will be played at the Cardiff’s stadium in the Welsh capital, on a Friday in June 2028, a game that will include the Dragons if they qualify.

Wembley Stadium will host the penultimate rounds and the final, which will be played on July 9, 2028 with a start time at 5pm.

It is anticipated that an earlier kick-off, which will also be implemented for Champions League finals from the upcoming season, will cater to families and help connect with a broader range of fans.

Participating Countries

The Republic of Ireland are set to play their opening match at the Dublin Arena and Scotland would play similarly at Hampden Park.

All four host countries’ teams will take part in the qualification process; two guaranteed slots will be set aside for any that miss out on the tournament through the qualification path.

Locations and Elimination Phase

Aston Villa’s stadium and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium finalize the event’s nine venues. All will hold at least one knockout match, with the last eight played at the national stadium of each host.

The qualifying draw will be conducted in the Northern Irish capital, which was removed as a host city last year when it was revealed the proposed venue could not be renovated in time, on December 6, 2026.

Official Statement

“It will be a tournament for the followers and a celebration of everything we cherish about the sport – its fervor and capacity to foster unity.”

More than three million tickets, a record for a men’s European Championship, are anticipated to be made available to fans.
